Settlement Counselling

At the Sault Community Career Centre, we are dedicated to provide with dignity and respect, services to newcomers in our community.

In the initial phase of contact with the settlement worker, newcomers receive orientation to all services and supports in the community. The settlement worker will assess you and your family’s needs, provide direction, and give you the ongoing support to successfully integrate into the community.

What will our settlement counsellor do for you?

  • Provide solutions-based counselling for newcomers seeking settlement and employment support and make appropriate referrals as required
  • Identify the needs of families and job seekers and build action plans for employment that include short and long term goals
  • Provide support for internationally-trained professionals navigating accreditation and licensure in Ontario
  • Give you information about your rights and entitlements as a new resident of Ontario
  • Help you fill out forms and applications (permanent residency, citizenship applications, OHIP, Social Insurance #, and much more)
  • Help you find programs and services in your community
  • Assist you to develop personal and community relationships and resources
  • Provide advice, support and advocacy to deal with the effects of migration, culture shock, and other stresses of adjusting to life in Canada
