Store Clerk – ‘R’ Smoking Store (Noel’s Place)

Purpose and Scope

The Clerk will promote the profitable sale of products and services within the business. The Clerks will be responsible to offer excellent customer services to its consumers. The Clerk will follow all sales practices and business procedures as outlined in this job description and as posted within the business premises. The Clerk will meet or exceed defined quality, and service objectives as determined by the Business Manager.

In support of “R” Smokin’ Store aim of providing quality customer service, the Clerk shall continuously strive to improve operations, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively with other employees to provide quality services to its patrons and consumers.

The Clerk must possess, or be willing to gain knowledge and improve their skills in the following areas:

  • Accountability for all sales transactions
  • Succeed in customer relations and satisfaction
  • Be highly self-motivated and organized
  • Ability to problem solve and improve procedural techniques
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively work with the public, management, and fellow employees
  • Be able to work days, evenings, and weekend shifts and/or last minute call ins
  • Previous experience with a heavy traffic flow drive through is a must

Duties

The Clerk will in every aspect of their position, maintain a level of professionalism, uphold the ethics of their position, and positively reflect the “R” Smokin’ Store business.

In addition, the Clerk shall complete the following duties as required by their position.

  • Abide by the store system procedures to ensure maximum effectiveness
  • Restock and rotate product on shelves to enhance inventory movement and prevent loss
  • Report inventory shortages and customer requests to their manager
  • Maintain store aesthetics, tidy, clean, and provide a safe foyer for customers.
  • Cleaning will include storefront, storage areas, washrooms, hallways, counters, fridge, freezer, and shelves. Daily duties include regularly sweeping, mopping, keeping areas free of debris, dusting, glass cleaned, walls washed down around sink and toilet, shake out rugs, ALL publicly handled equipment, handles, doors, counters, walls, doors, must be wiped and disinfected regularly
    Seasonal outdoor aesthetics is required: tidy, clean, and safe public areas for customers and staff.
  • This includes shoveling the entrance, removing ice dangers
  • Organize inventory deliveries in stock room
  • Complete opening and closing procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Cash handling and accounting
  • Accurately receive payment by cash, debit, credit
  • Accountable for all sale transactions during shift segment
  • Accurately record all information required on the shift report
  • Accurately count, record, and report float counts and movement
  • Report and account for any cash variances, inventory loss, or damaged product
  • Balance float at shift end, report any float variances at shift start
  • Ensure premium and non-premium cigarette shelves are all neat, tidy, and stocked
  • In the storage room shelves are stocked to capacity
  • Remove expired stock and report adjustments

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the Clerk will be in retail sales. The Clerk is required to operate a POS system, verify sales transactions, and cover shifts when required. This position will require light strength with upper limb coordination with the majority of lifting not more than 25lbs. The primary physical activities involve standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, handling, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and bending during each shift.

Responsibilities

It is the responsibility of the Clerk to ensure all daily operations and procedures are followed as outlined in this job description. Responsibilities include the guarantee that security procedures are followed upon opening and closing of your work site location. A special emphasis on inventory control, and financial accountability.

Qualifications

  • 5 years minimum of retail experience
  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent is required or be actively attending school for high school students.
  • Work skills training will be provided
  • The Clerk must successfully complete a 3-month training/probationary period prior to receiving an offer for employment.
  • Additional Requirements

Individual must have reliable transportation as the hours are between 0700 – 2415

The two main shifts are: 0645 -1545 & 1515 – 2415

Please note applicants must have reliable childcare available to them if they are called for last minute sick calls for day or afternoon shift, or extra help on busy days.
