The role of the Odeno Part-Time Cook is to mentor a team of Sault College Students to successfully operate a healthy, clean, safe kitchen providing a consistent product and experience for the Student Body of Sault College in Odeno Student Life Centre.

The duties of the Odeno Part-Time Cook are, but are not limited to the following:

    • Assist in training and mentoring Sault College Student Staff
    • Assist in managing Kitchen Inventories
    • Anticipate and cater to guests requests
    • Assist in completion of necessary prep work
    • Ensure all par levels of product are stocked
    • Consistently maintain a clean and healthy kitchen
    • Prepare food orders according to menu and recipes and Public Health Regulations ensuring consistent quality standards are met every tim

Position Summary

Reporting to the Operations Manager the Odeno Part-Time Cook will: Mentor a team of Full-Time Sault College Students to maintain the safety of food handling and preparations; ensure consistent quality; create new menu items and features; ensure effective communication with coworkers; report any violations of the Student Life Centre Policy and Procedures to the Operations Manager; and prevent dangerous activity within our establishment. The Odeno Part-Time Cook is responsible for implementing the goals of the Student Life Centre to provide offer student driven, healthy, affordable, safe environment for “outside of the books” student life to flourish.

Skills, Training and Qualifications

You are patient. You have the ability to train, nurture and motivate people who are new to the Food & Beverage industry. You are respectful of your coworkers and more importantly - those who report to you. You are independent and can think on your feet. Your strengths include a sense of humour and strong organizational skills including punctuality.   You are a self-motivated, cook who enjoys a fast pace and adapts well to change. You are committed to work non-traditional hours during peak school year but enjoy time off during holidays and summer. Your work in professional kitchen environments includes at least 2 years on a fast paced line. You have all of the necessary certifications including: WHMIS, Safe Food Handlers and Smart Serve. Preference may be given to candidates with CPR/First Aid and/or Red Seal certifications.
