Job Title: Early Detection and Rapid Response (EDRR) Network Coordinator

Rate of Pay: $40,000 - 50,000/annum

The Invasive Species Centre (ISC) is a not-for-profit organization established by the Ontario and Canadian Governments to coordinate projects and connect stakeholders, knowledge and technology to prevent and reduce the spread of invasive species that harm Canada’s environment, economy and society. The Invasive Species Centre was created as a model of public and government cooperation and collaboration in response to invasive species.  We are currently recruiting a hard-working, motivated, and dedicated individual to fill the position of Early Detection and Rapid Response (EDRR) Network Coordinator who will report to the Partnership and Science Manager.

Position Summary:

The Early Detection & Rapid Response (EDRR) Network Ontario project aims to train and equip volunteers with the skills and resources needed to better detect and reduce invasive species in Ontario. The project is delivered in partnership with the Ontario Invasive Plant Council (OIPC). In 2017-2019, the project will be focused on communities in the Algoma/Manitoulin/Cochrane region. The Network Coordinator position will be based out of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Partnership and Science Manager with overall administration and project management of the Early Detection Rapid Response Network project including overseeing financial reporting, work planning and development of communications plan.
  • Liaise with project partners and EDRR network members
  • Coordinate educational, outreach, and training events related to EDRR Network
  • Develop and enhance web portal (
  • Support the development of education and resource materials
  • Represent ISC and EDRR Network at community Open Houses and workshops as needed, including delivery of presentations
  • Supervise summer students and support staff, as needed
  • Ensure timelines are met for final reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Partnership and Science Manager or Executive Director

Required Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a science related field is required along with relevant professional experience
  • Knowledge of invasive species issues
  • Experience engaging, training, and retaining volunteers
  • Experience coordinating events and workshops
  • Strong interpersonal, time management, and teamwork skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite and productivity tools (e.g. Outlook, Word, & PowerPoint)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license
