JOB TITLE: Canada 150 Events Coordinator

CONTRACT PERIOD: May 1 – October 28, 2017 (6 months)

REPORTS TO: Jennifer Rizzo

CLOSING DATE: Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 3:00 p.m.                                 ANTICIPATED START DATE: May 1, 2017


The Canada 150 Events Coordinator will coordinate and oversee the Heritage Block Party project. The Heritage Block Party project will assist the Sault Community Career Centre in celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary with a new 2-day community event. These events include numerous cultural activities, theatre performances, live music entertainment, (all of which are family-friendly) and a forum led by 3 young Ontarian leaders with the theme “Ontario: The Next 150 Years.” Overall, there will be 7 sites activated, 70 volunteers engaged, 100 percent Ontario talent involved and approximately 4,000 attendees.


  • Responsible (as point of contact capacity) and accountable for the compiling of point of contact for vendors, location rental, entertainment, structural stage and lighting rental, and all other needs encompassed within the coordination of Canada150 event
  • Conducting prospect research in a timely manner
  • Responsible for logistic maintenance and activation of Canada150 event
  • Persuasively communicating the event’s mission and programs to potential participants, press and the general public
  • Assembling and submitting information in order to create daily tasks
  • Assembling and submitting information in order to create event timeline
  • Ensuring prompt acknowledgement of event partners and maintaining appropriate contact
  • Developing a calendar of activity and submission due dates
  • Source quotes for materials
  • Aiding in the distribution and representing the Canada150 event at various community booths
  • Canvassing businesses/organizations downtown for participation
  • Managing the organization of the Sault Community Career Centre Annual General Meeting


  • Office environment
  • Able to walk/move extensively around the downtown core
  • Event work, which may require lifting, hauling, etc.
  • Minor office cleaning to maintain a clean and organized office space
  • Attending some early morning or evening meetings may be required
  • Having a valid Ontario Driver’s license and access to a vehicle is a must
  • Irregular hours will be necessary as workloads dictate and will include evenings, weekends and/or holidays
  • Long hours in intense concentration requiring attention to detail and high levels of accuracy



  •  Previous event experience
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written & oral communication
  • Excellent organizational skills including, attention to detail, accuracy, time management.
  • Ability to create, coordinate, execute and evaluate events and projects
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Illustrator, and minor website maintenance (WordPress)
  • Strong social media skills & experience
  • Ability to learn
  • Outgoing, flexible & motivated
  • Awareness of and respect for cultural diversity
