Job Title:           Tourism Program Coordinator

Reports to:         Executive Director

JOB SUMMARY:  

The Tourism Program Coordinator will develop new programming, in collaboration with AGA staff, which will be offered to tourists, as well as expand current programming to enhance visitor’s experience. The Tourism Program Coordinator will learn about the Group of Seven, will conduct Group of Seven presentations, will learn about historical sites in Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma Region, and will learn about tourism offerings in the area. The Tourism Program Coordinator will provide exhibition tours, workshops, and a series of drop in art programming/ classes/ presentations/demonstrations for tourists of all age groups. The AGA exhibitions and collection, including the AGA Sculpture Park, will provide the foundation for developing added programs. The Tourism Program Coordinator will maintain reports to provide status of their work.

Considered candidates will have education and or experience within arts, art history, tourism, marketing, not for profit sector, and relevant program development experience. Computer skills should include proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point), and social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, YouTube). Successful candidate should be fluent in English (written and spoken); spoken French is considered an asset.

The successful candidate will be willing to work evenings, weekends and at special events. The candidate will be trained and supervised by the Executive Director or Director’s designate.

Application Criteria

According to the Provincial and Federal funding eligibility criteria, candidates:

  • Will be between 16 and 25 (or 30) years of age at the start of employment;
  • Are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment starting on June 26 for seven weeks;
  • Successful candidate must be a full-time student (as defined by their educational institution) in the semester preceding the placement;
  • The successful candidate must intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the summer placement.
